Student Leadership
At St Mark’s, we believe leadership is rooted in service, integrity and a commitment to others. Inspired by our Catholic ethos and Gospel values, we aim to develop young people who are confident, resilient and independent, who behave with integrity and cooperate well with others.
Our approach to leadership and character is underpinned by our core values of Strength, Teamwork, Mission, Ambition, Respect and Knowledge. These values shape everyday life at St Mark’s and help students to grow not only academically, but spiritually, morally and socially.
Leadership and character development are woven throughout school life and provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, responsibility and compassion. We encourage students to become active participants in the school community, developing the skills and values needed to positively contribute both within school and beyond.
Students can take on a wide range of leadership roles and experiences throughout their time at St Mark’s. A flavour of these opportunities includes our Catholic Ambassador Programme, Prefect Team, Peer Mentoring, Form Assemblies, House Leadership opportunities and student-led charity initiatives. Through these experiences, students develop communication skills, teamwork, organisation, empathy and the confidence to lead others.
Our Catholic identity is central to our approach to leadership and character. Opportunities such as Faith in Action work, retreats, SVP involvement, Mission of the Month activities, community participation projects and charity campaigns encourage students to live out Gospel values through service, reflection and action.
We are also committed to helping students develop strong moral character and positive relationships. Through restorative justice approaches, peer support programmes and our wider pastoral systems, students are encouraged to reflect, take responsibility, repair relationships and grow as respectful members of the community.
At St Mark’s, leadership is not limited to positions of responsibility. We believe every student has the capacity to lead through kindness, courage, service and example. Our aim is to develop young people who embody our St Mark’s values and leave the school as compassionate, principled and socially responsible individuals, ready to make a positive difference in the world.
