Tutor Time
Our tutor programme is carefully sequenced and thoughtfully planned to ensure pupils benefit from a consistent and meaningful start to each school day. The programme supports pupils academically, socially, morally and spiritually, while reinforcing the values at the heart of our St Mark’s community.
Tutor time places a strong emphasis on literacy, communication, reflection and personal growth. Pupils take part in regular reading activities that encourage a love of reading, develop cultural awareness and broaden their understanding of the world around them. Through our Word of the Week initiative, pupils explicitly develop vocabulary, communication and oracy, helping them grow in confidence across both academic and everyday language. Prayer and reflection are also an integral part of tutor time, helping pupils develop spiritually and reflect on the mission and values of the school community.
The programme also creates opportunities for pupils to engage with themes and discussions that reflect the life of the school and the world around them. This includes work linked to inclusion, equality and anti racism, alongside wider discussions that encourage pupils to show compassion, respect and understanding towards others as well as preparing them to live in the wider world.
Alongside this, tutor time provides valuable opportunities for conversation, pastoral support and relationship building, helping pupils to feel known, valued and supported as part of the St Mark’s family.
