Sixth Form Life

Sixth Form Life and Study Programme at St. Mark’s

At St. Mark’s, we provide a structured and supportive environment that fosters independence and a lifelong love of learning. We have high expectations of our students in all aspects of Sixth Form life, including dress, commitment to study, attendance, punctuality, and contribution to the wider school community.

Sixth Form students benefit from dedicated facilities, including a supervised study area and a common room, as well as the guidance of experienced staff who are committed to helping them achieve their full potential.

Beyond lessons, students are expected to dedicate five hours of independent study per subject each week. This includes completing assignments, reviewing classwork, and engaging in wider reading. In Year 12, students use the study room during free periods to develop effective study habits.

We are committed to eliminating barriers and providing a well-rounded, inclusive study programme that enriches the lives of all our students. In addition to academic growth, we are dedicated to not only helping young people transition into university or apprenticeships after their studies, but also ensuring they engage in a wide variety of enrichment activities that prepare them to become global citizens. This includes attendance at the prom in Year 13, to celebrate students' achievements and milestones. These experiences are designed to promote personal development and equip students to face the diverse challenges of adult life, no matter their background.

We expect all assignments to be completed on time and for students to meet their minimum target grades. If a student is struggling with their workload, we offer additional monitoring and tailored support to ensure they remain on track. Parents are kept informed of student progress, and we work in partnership to help students succeed.

Attendance and punctuality are key to academic success. All absences must be explained with a note from home, and students are expected to maintain an attendance level of at least 95%. Punctuality is equally important, and students must arrive on time for all lessons and commitments.

Each student is assigned a form tutor who provides guidance throughout their time in the Sixth Form. The tutor serves as the first point of contact for parents, subject teachers, and students, offering both academic and pastoral support. Morning and afternoon registration with the tutor is essential.

St. Mark’s Sixth Form is a welcoming and vibrant community where students are encouraged to pursue their aspirations. Sixth Formers play an integral role in school life, contributing through leadership, service, and participation in cultural, liturgical, sporting, and charitable activities. We offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities to help students develop skills beyond the classroom and prepare for their future.
