Whole School Assemblies

Our whole school assembly programme is an important expression of our Catholic identity and plays a central role in bringing the St Mark’s community together in faith, reflection and shared purpose. Led by senior leaders and staff across the school, assemblies provide opportunities for pupils to reflect on Gospel values, celebrate diversity, explore current issues and deepen their understanding of the mission of the school.

Each half-term is shaped by a Catholic Social Teaching theme and school virtue, helping pupils connect faith with action and understand how they are called to live out Gospel values in everyday life. Through themes including human dignity, solidarity and peace, community and participation, care for creation, dignity of work and the preferential option for the poor, pupils are encouraged to reflect on their responsibilities towards others and their role in building a more just and compassionate society.

Assemblies also respond thoughtfully to important moments in the liturgical calendar and the wider world, helping pupils to reflect on faith, identity, justice and their responsibility towards others. Through themes linked to seasons such as Advent, Lent and Pentecost, alongside issues including equality, anti-racism, mental health, service, sustainability and social justice, pupils are encouraged to think deeply, reflect compassionately and consider how they can positively contribute to both the school community and the wider world.

We are proud that our assembly programme celebrates the richness and diversity of our community while reinforcing the values that unite us. Whether through Mission of the Month assemblies, Catholic Ambassador initiatives, student leadership opportunities, celebration events or moments of collective prayer and reflection, assemblies help foster a strong sense of belonging and remind pupils that they are part of a community rooted in dignity, inclusion, service and hope.
